Physical Rehabilitation at Ohio Healthcare Partners in Fairlawn

Physical Rehabilitation is an excellent way for an individual to get a personalized and hands-on approach to managing his/her pain.  The goal of Physical Rehabilitation is to help restore movement and function when a patient is affected by injury, illness or disability.

Although anyone can benefit from Physical Rehabilitation throughout their life, the people who benefit the most are those with back pain, injuries, or those managing chronic medical conditions. Some of the conditions that we have dealt with include back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy.

Our treatment plans looks at the patient as a whole and give each individual a chance to participate in their own rehab. By encouraging patients to use their muscles through exercise, we increase flexibility and range of motion.  This will improve overall strength, endurance, balance, and coordination.

How Physical Rehabilitation Works

Before coming to your initial visit, you must first visit a physician who will prescribe the Physical Rehabilitation treatment. Once you receive the direction from your physician, our staff will perform a comprehensive analysis of your current condition. The physician will test your range of motion, tissue limitations, posture, and muscular imbalances. Our chiropractors can then use this information to treat the spine and order more tests like X-rays, MRIs or blood tests. After the information is recorded, we will work with you to create a treatment plan catered specifically to your needs.

This treatment plan will give the patient a hands-on approach to the therapy during each session. Each session will last approximately one hour and focus on exercises that heal the body and improve overall health and function. It is best to wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement to each session so that exercises can be completed without any issues.

Types of Physical Rehabilitation We Offer

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical Muscle Stimulation is done by sending a small electrical current to the troublesome soft tissue area or muscle spasm. The current reduces swelling and releases trigger points that could have caused the muscle to tighten in the first place. This therapy helps the body release natural pain relievers called endorphins.

Interferential Electro-Therapy

Interferential Electro-Therapy is a great way to help the body deal with soft tissue problems such as spasms and sprains. It is performed by using a low simulated frequency on the problematic tissue. It stimulates natural healing by releasing endorphins and is a very light and comfortable treatment.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy, which is used in our office to treat joint pain, muscle spasms, and soft tissues, is not the same ultrasound that most people are familiar with. It uses small sound waves that vibrate and massage soft tissues and muscles. The waves help the body heal and decrease the formation of scar tissue.
